✅Dortmund go head-to-head against St. Pauli on Friday. Read our Predictions and Betting Tips with Match Preview, Head-to-head stats (h2h) and Team Form Analysis.
Our prediction for this Bundesliga match:
Friday’s football game between Signal-Iduna-Park will open round 7 of the new Bundesliga campaign. The Yellow-Blacks aim to recover from a 2-1 loss to Union Berlin and they are likely to go all guns blazing at St. Pauli. The Yellow-Blacks are eager to keep their 100% record at home intact and they are surely capable of beating the newcomers in front of their loyal fans.
All Julien Duranville, Filippo Mane, Karim Adeyemi, and Giovanni Reyna remain in the recovery room, but there are no fresh injury worries in the home team. St. Pauli, meanwhile, are eager to escape the danger zone, but given their negative record at Signal-Iduna-Park, home win should be considered. You should know that Borussia Dortmund have won five of the previous six encounters with St. Pauli at the venue. To make things even worse for the away team, their injury list is pretty long.
How the bookies view it: The hosts start as big favourites.
The JLPH bookies are strongly favouring Borussia Dortmund ahead of this one and have priced a home win at 1/4. St Pauli are considered major underdogs, which should come as no surprise given their stature compared to Dortmund and have been priced at 8/1 to get the three points. The draw, which would be a good result for the visitors, has been priced at 4/1 by win96.
Borussia Dortmund vs St Pauli Match Preview
Borussia Dortmund continued with their hot and cold performances just before the international break, falling 1-2 away at Union Berlin.
It was the second defeat in their last three league matches. It also came after back-to-back comprehensive victories over Bochum and Celtic as BVB bagged eleven goals in the process.
New manager Nuri Sahin can be worried about his team’s defensive displays at the start of the season.
Dortmund haven’t kept a clean sheet in four straight fixtures across competitions. The fact they allowed two goals away at Union Berlin in the previous round says enough.
Borussia are set to open Matchday No 7 with the home clash against newly-promoted St. Pauli on Friday evening.
The visitors boast the worst attacking record in the elite tier with just four goals scored in the inaugural six rounds.
They’ll come into this off the back of a painful 0-3 home loss to the likes of Mainz. It came just after a shocking 3-0 away win over Freiburg.
Recent head-to-head: Hope for St Pauli
Although they aren’t expected to win on Friday, St Pauli do have the psychological edge on Dortmund as they won the most recent clash between the two sides. In what was their only meeting in the past ten years, St Pauli overcame Dortmund 2-1 in a cup match back in 2022. Friday night will mark their first league clash since 2011.
Borussia Dortmund vs St Pauli Prediction
Despite recent struggles, Borussia Dortmund are still only four points shy of leaders Bayern Munich.
They own a perfect home record with four wins in four outings in front of their fans in all competitions.
They’ve notched 17 goals along the way. Borussia are massive favourites here against St. Pauli who sit fourth from bottom with four defeats in the maiden six rounds.
Last but not least, Dortmund have six wins and three draws in the previous nine home encounters with St. Pauli.
We will back the hosts to win by two or more goals difference as the main betting option at the odds of 1.75.
You can also take the 1.72 odds offered for Dortmund’s top scorer Serhou Guirassy to score anytime.
The former Stuttgart forward has three goals to his name in four Bundesliga appearances this term.
Players to watch: New boy in red hot form
Borussia Dortmund’s biggest signing this summer was unquestionably Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart. The centre forward netted 28 times in the Bundesliga last season which earned him a big money move across Germany in the summer which has naturally put extra pressure on his shoulders.
To compound matters, Guirassy had to wait until the middle of September to make his Dortmund debut due to injury but he has still managed to fly out of the blocks. He has scored six goals in his first six appearances for the club across the Bundesliga and the Champions League and there is a sense that he can lead them to a title charge this season.
To make matters even scarier for St Pauli, the 28-year-old comes into this one on the back of a ridiculous international break. Guirassy netted five times in two appearances for Guinea over the past week and will be desperate to get back on the pitch again.
Predicted line-ups
Borussia Dortmund have several key players out injured for this one with Giovanni Reyna out until early November and Karim Adeyemi out until late November. St Pauli have injury problems of their own with Soren Ahlers, Sascha Burchet, Ben Voll, Simon Zoller and Elias Saad – their top scorer this season – all out.
Borussia Dortmund: Kobel – Ryerson, Anton, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini – Gross, Sabitzer – Malen, Brandt, Gittens – Guirassy
St Pauli: Vasilj – Saliakas, Wahl, Smith, Mets, Ritzka – Irvine, Wagner – Afolayan, Eggestein, Guilavogui
